Herb Fair Returns to Boerner Botanical Gardens May 20

Learn all about herbs and peruse thousands of herb plants this Saturday at the Boerner Botanical Gardens.

MILWAUKEE, WI – The Herb Society of America–Wisconsin Unit will present talks, demonstrations, and thousands of herb plants at the free 2017 Herb Fair, Saturday, from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at Boerner Botanical Gardens. The Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee County’s β€œLiving Museum,” is located in Whitnall Park, at 9400 Boerner Drive.

Celebrating cilantro, or coriander, as the β€œHerb of the Year,” the event will feature two speakers. At 10 a.m., Jane Hawley-Stevens, founder of Four Elements Organic Herbs, will present Wellness Herbs, and at 11:15 a.m., Nino Ridgway, owner of Herbs & Everlastings at Barthel Fruit Farm, will present Salad Herbs: How to Grow and Use a Variety of Herbs for Every Kind of Salad.

Herb growers, artists, and other vendors will be in the area surrounding the Education and Visitor Center. In addition to perennial and annual herb plants, jewelry, garden art, and other items with herb or gardening themes will be for sale.

At β€œThyme Square,” Wisconsin Unit members will sell herbal items they’ve made. For weary shoppers, a tea room will serve herbal teas and sweet and savory treats. Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens will lead children’s activities from 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Regular admission to the Botanical Gardens is $5.50 for adults age 18 and up; $4.50 for students of any age with IDs, Milwaukee County seniors age 60 and up with IDs, and people with disabilities; and $3.50 for youths age 6-17. Members of the Herb Society of America receive free admission to the Botanical Gardens. Admission to the gardens requires wearing the official daily wristband.
