The event, co-sponsored by the Whitnall School District, will be held at the Greenfield PAC on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Parents, students and community members are invited to a very important summit on the dangers of heroin and prescription drugs to be held at the Greenfield Performing Arts Center, 4800 S. 60th St., Greenfield, on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Heroin: Not Just Our Neighbors’ Problem will be presented by the Greenfield Police Department in conjunction with the Greenfield and Whitnall school districts. The special event will feature various speakers, including a parent, who will share her heartwrenching story about losing her son to a drug overdose. Other speakers include a recovering drug addict, a recovery coach, law enforcement members and more.

The event begins with a resource fair at 5 p.m. The speakers are expected to take the stage at 6 p.m.

“If middle and high school parents attend just one event this fall, this should be it,” Greenfield Police Chief Brad Wentlandt said. “Heroin addiction is a problem that has reached epidemic proportions in our area and in our own community. Parents need to understand that the problem of opiate addiction is pervasive, and it’s killing our children.”

Those interested in attending the free summit should register in advance at www.eventbrite.com (Search for Heroin: Not Just Our Neighbors’ Problem). Registration is limited to the first 600 attendees, though some walk-in registration the day of the event is expected to be available.
