GREENFIELD, WI β€” Greenfield's sprawling 84 south retail development project got a tremendous boost Thursday on the announcement that Aurora Health Care is proposing a $55 million healthcare facility at the development.

The multi-story, approximately 130,000-square-foot facility would include an outpatient imaging center, sports health and rehabilitation, a specialty physician clinic and dispensary pharmacy. The facility would also increase capacity at Aurora St. Luke’s and Aurora West Allis Medical Center campuses, allowing Aurora to continue developing hospital-based services that best address patients’ evolving needs.

β€œAurora Health Care is always looking for better ways to deliver high-quality, cost-effective health care,” said Steve Francaviglia, president of Aurora’s Greater Milwaukee South service area in a prepared statement released Friday. β€œThis state-of-the-art facility within 84South will serve as a specialty hub and provide new and expanded services that will help us better serve patients in Greenfield and surrounding communities.”

The new facility would be leased from an affiliate of Cobalt Partners, the Milwaukee-based developer of 84South. β€œWe are excited to have Aurora, the state’s largest private employer and a demonstrated innovator in health care, join our best-in-class mix of uses at 84South,” said Scott Yauck, president and CEO of Cobalt Partners.

β€œAs health care and wellness becomes more integrated into how we live, work and play, mixed-use development continues to evolve along a similar trajectory. 84South will offer substantive and exciting options for employment, wellness, housing, dining, and gathering. We couldn’t be more pleased than to prominently feature Aurora in such a capacity,” he said in a prepared statement.

Construction Moving Along

Construction is moving along at Greenfield's 84South mixed-use development and local officials updated residents this week with some visuals of the site.

Snapshots of the progress were shared on the city's Facebook page along with comments about which business is bound for each space. County officials and developers broke ground on the 84South project in late October.
The mixed-used development is located just south of Interstate 894 and west of South 84th Street. It will comprise about 250,000 square feet for shops and restaurants as well as about 270 market-rate apartment units.
Kohl's department store is the most recent business to jump on the bandwagon, announcing this past week that it will move from its longtime Greendale home. Portillo's restaurant is set to open in April.

The following businesses are expected to open at the site in the coming summer and year:

  • Steinhafels (moving from 84th and Layton)
  • Total Wine
  • Fresh Thyme Farmers Market
  • Ross Dress for Less
  • ULTA Beauty
  • Kirklands
  • Carter's
  • Oshkosh B'Gosh
