Konkel Cup Pond Hockey Classic: Greenfield Plans 3rd Annual
The Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department announced registration is open for the 3rd Annual Konkel Cup Pond Hockey Classic in January.
GREENFIELD, WI — The 3rd Annual Konkel Cup Pond Hockey Classic has been scheduled for Jan. 28-29 and team registration is now open, the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Department announced.
The pond hockey tournament will put at most eight teams, each with four to seven players, against each other at the Konkel Park ice skating rink.
Players must be 21 years or older by the start of the tournament, the city's website says, and each player will receive a player gift. In addition, each team will get a voucher for a bucket of beer. Whichever team wins 1st place can expect individual awards.

No equipment will be provided, but there will be a changing and warming area. Food and beverages will also be available, but carry-ins are not allowed, the city's website said.
An opening date for the ice skating rink at Konkel Park has yet to be officially announced. The non-refrigerated pond relies on mother nature to do the freezing, which requires patience, a city official previously told Patch.

In the event of poor weather for the rink, the city scheduled makeup dates for the tournament on Feb. 4-5.
Those looking to sponsor the tournament can call Scott Jaquish at 414-329-5370.
