5K Keeps Memory of Brian Lautenbach Alive in Hearts of Hudson Community

The Brian Lautenbach Celebrate Life 5K & Family Fun Run was about, "remembering Brian and how Brian lived his life ... full of life, full of love, full of purpose."

Although the conditions for running were not ideal on a cool morning in Hudson, it did not damper the spirit of hundreds of runners, walkers, and even baby-strollers from getting out in support of family, friends or a chance to help their neighbors in need.

The  at brought the community together to remember the past.

According to the event’s description from a :

"On December 7, 2010, Hudson resident, Brian Lautenbach, 38, suffered an unexpected stroke. Three days later, he passed away. There were no warning signs, no preparation and no proper goodbyes for his wife, Colleen, and four young children – Annika, Oran, Kaspar and Freya. Later it was discovered that Brian had a rare genetic blood disorder that went undetected."

This led family and friends to create the first to remember the life he lived.

With unexpected events, comes an unexpected burden that alone can be hard to bear. Proceeds from the event will go toward easing that burden, but also for helping a local family in need. This drew the Hudson community together as they too, wanted to do their part.

Event volunteers and organizers were there for one purpose: to celebrate life. Kris Coyer, a close friend of Colleen Lautenbach, said the day captured what Brian’s life was all about.

“Even the orange and yellow balloons were there to celebrate the brightness of his life,” Coyer said.

However, planning an event of such magnitude takes the strong efforts of many. Nevertheless, Coyer was not worried. “Everything came together. To have people step up and step forward was just amazing.”

As the participants slowly moved out of sight, Coyer truly captured what the day was all about. “We really wanted to be here for Colleen.  She is the strongest, most courageous woman I know. We really wanted to do this for her and for her four young kids. We know she would have done the same for any of us.”

While the participants may not get a fancy medal or be recognized for their athletic talents, although they did all get T-shirts, they have made their impact on keeping the memories alive and remembering how this Hudson man have lived his life. As the Brian Lautenbach website describes, the event was about, “remembering Brian and how Brian lived his life ... full of life, full of love, full of purpose.”
