Raiders Lacrosse Team Completes Undefeated Regular Season with Win Over Shakopee
The undefeated Hudson lacrosse Raiders fended off a serious first-half challenge from Shakopee to win 9 to 4 in Shakopee on Thursday.
The undefeated Hudson lacrosse Raiders fended off a serious first-half challenge from Shakopee to win 9 to 4 in Shakopee on Thursday. The undefeated Raiders are number 1 in the state rankings of the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association (MBSLA), and will face number 7-ranked Northfield in the first round of the play-offs next week.
Hudson’s Will Reece started the scoring with the only goal of an evenly matched first quarter.
Hudson’s McKay Potter scored a goal early in the second quarter. Then Shakopee went on a run of 3 unanswered goals and the Raiders trailed 2 to 3. Taren Motte scored just before halftime to even the score at 3 to 3.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Shakopee scored again to move ahead by one, 3 to 4. It looked as if the Raiders might be headed toward their first loss of the MBSLA season. However, in what has become something of a pattern, the Raiders pulled together in the second half, tightening their defense and energizing their offense, to shut down Shakopee’s scoring and pull ahead.
The three players who scored earlier continued to produce, with Potter scoring his second goal and Motte and Reece each scoring 2 more in the third quarter. Hudson led 8 to 4 after 3 quarters.

Hudson’s Joey Hernandez scored the only goal of the fourth quarter for a final score of 9 to 4. Hudson will play Northfield in the first round of the playoffs next week on Wednesday or Thursday in Hudson at River Crest Elementary.
