The Best Way to See the Twins, and What It’s Like to Be There!
There's a positive, happy feel to the entire experience that I didn't find at other ballparks. Everyone is excited and enthusiastic, and the feeling is contagious.
Winter was so long this year, and pretty much everyone wants to be outside as much as possible. I love seeing articles on Patch like , about what to do over the weekend. Are you looking for a positive, fun thing to do? Catch some outdoor baseball at Target Field, the new home of the Minnesota Twins!
The Twins left the Metrodome to play outside in 2010, and Target Field is awesome! Considered one of the best stadiums in baseball to catch a game, I can tell you that it’s a guaranteed fun time. Here’s a few reasons why:
- All the seats are great! I’ve been to see the White Sox, Cubs, and saw games at the Dome too, and Target definitely has the best “just go and you’ll love it” seating arrangement. It doesn’t matter where you sit, high or low—you’ll have a great view of the field and viewing screens, and easy access to restrooms and concessions. For those of you who want the best seats, Target Field offers approximately 19,000 infield seats, more than nearly any major league ballpark.
- It feels good to be there. I noticed this right away, the first time I went. There’s a positive, happy feel to the entire experience that I didn’t find at other ballparks. Everyone is excited and enthusiastic, and the feeling is contagious. I’ve never seen a stadium erupt in loud applause when a player gets walked before.
- It’s easy to get to! You can always just drive—I’ve done this. The Twins Transportation page says to "Travel westbound on I-94 and exit on Olson Memorial Highway (Highway 55). Turn right (East) after exiting then another right onto North 7th Street (Highway 55). You will see Target Field on your left." Yes, there's traffic, but it's pretty straightforward. I was particularly happy to see how easy it is to get back on 94 after the game to head back to Wisconsin!
- Parking is $15-25, depending on how far you want to walk. I usually go via Park and Ride, though. It’s a lot less stress to use the light rail. Drive to the Fort Snelling station, and buy an Event Pass. This will get you there and back, and there are transit personnel to help you if you need it. My first time using the light rail was to go see the Twins, and it couldn’t have been easier.
- It’s kid friendly! Every child will love the sights and sounds of a ballgame.
- Are there any drawbacks you should know about? One (you might expect this) is that food and drink is not cheap. But, it’s good, which makes up for it. Families on a budget might want to consider limiting themselves to hot dogs or peanuts, and nothing beats a dog at a ballgame!
