Update: Parents Witness Hudson Cyclist Bjorn Selander Earn White Jersey in Debut at Giro d’Italia
Hudsonites Dag and Heidi Selander were able to watch in person as their 23-year-old son Bjorn earned the white jersey in the Giro d'Italia.

Update (10:35 a.m. on May 11, 2011): VeloNews has posted another article about Bjorn Selander, and this one includes comments from his dad Dag and mom Heidi. From Lennard Zinn's article in VeloNews:
"Dag and Heidi Selander had been planning to come visit their son in his new home in Italy for some time, and those plans were accelerated when they found out that their son would be riding the Giro. They originally had planned to come for the last week but instead decided to come before the Giro, drive Bjørn up from his adopted home in Lucca, Italy, and see the first week of the race."
"It turned out to be a great decision."

The 23-year-old cyclist is a member of Team RadioShack, which nearly pulled out a surprise victory according to Andrew Hood of VeloNews:
"It wasn’t a bad start to the Giro d’Italia for Bjorn Selander, who earned kisses from the podium girls on the first day of his grand tour debut. With RadioShack swarming to second place in the team time trial, Selander claimed the white jersey awarded to the best young rider," Hood wrote.
Bjorn Selander, 23, is the son of Dag Selander, a Hudson city employee and volunteer firefighter.
