Hudson Wrestlers Compete at State; Larson in Semifinals, Johnson and Owens Out
Hudson senior Nick Larson won two matches at the WIAA individual state wrestling meet while his two Raiders teammates fell in the first round.
senior Nick Larson (152 lbs.) won both his matches on Thursday, Feb. 24, to earn a berth in the semifinals at the WIAA individual state wrestling meet in Madison.
Larson along with his Raiders teammates, senior Gordon Johnson (119 lbs.) and junior Tanner Owens (135 lbs.), wrestled in the state tournament mats in the University of Wisconsin Fieldhouse on Thursday, but Larson was the only one of them to have any success.
Larson began the day with a 16-8 major decision over West Allis Central junior Brian Smith in the opening round. Next he battled Jonathon Bleach, a senior at Marquette University High School, to earn a 9-7 decision in the quarterfinals.

On Friday evening, Larson takes his 45-3 season record to a semifinal faceoff with Zak Benitz of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, a junior who holds a 47-5 record on the season. Undefeated junior Matthew Gray of Wilmot Union (44-0) and Logan Keding of D.C. Everest (40-7) make up the other semifinal. Larson narrowly defeated Keding in the sectional final last weekend in Marshfield.
Johnson lost his first-round match in a 3-0 decision to sophomore Roman Stiff of Franklin. Owens lost his first-round match in a 14-8 decision to senior Jake Maechtle of Port Washington.
