Several Hudson Athletes Do Well at WIAA State Track & Field Meet
Hudson athletes finished first in the shot put, second in the 4x200 relay, third in the 4x100 relay and sixth in the pole vault on Saturday.
Hudson High School’s girls relay teams knew they were good all season, they just didn’t know how good.
They found that answer to be pretty pleasing on Saturday at the WIAA State Track & Field Meet in La Crosse as the 4x100 and 4x200 relays took bronze and silver, respectively in all of Division 1.
“Throughout the year, we’ve kind of been winning a lot of our races by quite a bit in our section and region,” anchor Katie Thielmann said. “There have been some big gaps. So now we get here and we finally be pushed a little bit.”

Apparently the Raiders know how to push back.
In the 4x100, Thielmann had the unenviable task of making up ground on the Sussex-Hamilton and Milwaukee Bradley Tech teams. To no surprise to her teammates, she did just that.

“From where I was, it looked like she was farther back,” sophomore teammate Erikka Haft said. “It looked like she was sixth or seventh but then when she got closer I realized we were in third and I was just so proud of her for finishing off.”
Thielmann’s finish helped break Hudson’s school record in the event as this year’s team finished with a time of 49.17 seconds, just behind Hamilton (48.15) and Bradley Tech’s new state record (46.02).
The same group of girls finished one spot further up the podium in the 4x200, an event they all agreed was more ‘their race,’ with a time of 1 minute, 42.03 seconds.
Hudson’s lone gold-medal winner on the day came from senior Jamie Lindstrom, who won the shot put with a distance of 42 feet, 5.75 inches.
“(Winning the championship) was so awesome,” Lindstrom said. “It was something I’ve worked four years really hard for and it just feels awesome. I did it for my mom. I know she’s up there smiling at me. I’m just so happy right now.”
Katie Wetzstein also did well for the Raiders, finishing eighth in the 3200 on Friday and then seventh in the 1600 on Saturday.
In all, Hudson finished with a girls’ team score of 28 points, good enough for sixth place overall in this year’s Division-1 standings.
On the boy’s side, senior Michael Congdon was the lone place winner on the day, taking sixth place in the pole vault.
“I had higher aspirations for what I really wanted to do today,” Congdon said. “I was really looking to be the champion, obviously, but senior year, get a medal, I’m pretty proud of that.”
