Students Come to Say Goodbye to Mr. Meincke

Carl Meincke retires after being a band instructor in the Hudson School District for 37 years.

For the retirement of Mr. Meincke, former students came together to say goodbye in a way that he would never forget. With the help of music teacher, Connie Root, students came to surprise Mr. Meincke at his final concert.

“They will be coming in at the end of the concert with their interments from all different directions,” said Root before the surprise. “They will be playing ‘Tequila,’ but instead they will shout Mr. Meinke at the end. It will be great because everyone knows that I can’t stand that song.”

Former students lined up at each entrance with the instruments that Mr. Meincke had helped teach them to play, for some of them just a year ago and for others it had been 20 years ago.

“He was great teacher,” said former student Brita Van Guilder, “this is a good way to send him off and say goodbye.”

At the end of the concert, former students came through the doors playing 'Tequila' and Mr. Meincke took over to conduct his last song.
