UPDATE: Eastbound Lanes of Interstate 94 Reopened After WisDOT Repairs Buckled Pavement

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Tuesday afternoon shut down all three eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 at Exit 3 because of pavement buckling. All three lanes have since been repaired and reopened.

UPDATE (6:45 p.m., June 7, 2011): WisDOT has repaired and reopened all lanes. Motorists should still use caution as a large bump still exists at the location where the pavement buckled.

Wisconsin State Patrol is asking motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes if possible.

WisDOT traffic cameras at both Carmichael Road and Heggen Street show the traffic backup.

Patch contributor Keith Crowley reports from the scene that the buckling occured just past the River Falls exit and all lanes are affected. He says cars are being allowed to pass the buckled segments on the left shoulder, and traffic is backed up into Minnesota "as far as the eye can see."

At about 5:30 p.m., eastbound traffic was backed up to Radio Drive in Woodbury. Some lanes were stopped at times.
