Athletes from USM, Grafton and other schools punched tickets to this week’s state meet in La Crosse, giving local fans plenty of names to watch. 
• Slinger woman awakes to bear strolling through her yard (washingtoncountyinsider.com) — A recent black bear sighting in the Town of Kewaskum, near Townline Road and Highland, appears connected to a young bear now roaming through nearby Slinger neighborhoods. Residents are spotting the animal along wooded corridors by condos and the Slinger water tower, prompting both excitement and caution as experts note it’s unusual for bears to wander this far south.
