• Man arrested after barricading himself in the basement of a Little Chute home (wearegreenbay.com) — Police arrested a man Monday afternoon after he barricaded himself in the basement of a home on the 400 block of Buchanan Street in Little Chute, ending a 45-minute standoff without injuries. Fox Valley Metro Police led the response, with assistance from Appleton police, the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Gold Cross Ambulance.

• Outagamie County highway crew saves cats from hot vehicle (wbay.com) — Highway workers mowing near the Little Chute park-and-ride spotted and rescued 12 overheated cats and kittens locked in an abandoned vehicle on a 90-degree day. Their quick call to law enforcement helped save the animals and prompted a reminder to Little Chute residents never to leave pets or people in hot cars, and to report suspicious, possibly abandoned vehicles right away.

• Crews spend hours battling fire at Combined Locks paper mill (nbc26.com) — Firefighters from Little Chute joined several neighboring departments Monday night to battle a dryer and roof fire at the McKinley Paper Mill in nearby Combined Locks. Crews worked for about three hours using standpipes and sprinklers to contain the flames, and no injuries were reported, though the cause and damage estimates are still pending.
