Envision Downtown Madison Open House #3 (cityofmadison.com) — Madison residents are invited to an Envision Downtown Madison open house on Oct. 1 at the Madison Municipal Building, with an option to join via Zoom. You'll hear about proposed public and private initiatives, plus a draft land use framework that will guide future downtown development, and can ask questions with translation support available for Spanish and other languages by request.

City seeks millions to bolster James Madison Park upgrades, lake access (captimes.com) — City officials are pursuing a $2.3 million federal grant to match local funds for long-planned upgrades at James Madison Park, just north of the Capitol. If approved, Madison residents could see a new shelter, safer crossings, a naturalized Lake Mendota shoreline, and better waterfront access, expanding scarce downtown park space and improving everyday lake use.

3. 24-hour child care center opens in Madison (wmtv15news.com) — Parents in Madison who work nights, weekends, or holidays now have a new option: Moe's Care Bears, a 24-hour childcare center serving kids from six weeks to 13 years old. Founded by local mom Moneisha Dorsey, the center aims to support families with nontraditional schedules so children have safe, consistent care whenever parents are on the job.

Airport X-ray shows terrifying object taped in carry-on to skip checked baggage fee (foxnews.com) — Travelers flying out of Madison's Dane County Regional Airport are being reminded not to pack prohibited items after TSA officers found a knife taped inside a passenger's carry-on bag. The woman admitted she hid it to avoid a checked-bag fee before a camping trip, and officers confiscated the knife while allowing her to continue traveling.

5. Apprenticeship center opens in Madison (wmtv15news.com) — A new Center for Apprenticeship Excellence has just opened in Madison, giving hundreds of local apprentices access to eight classrooms and three hands-on labs for construction trades training. Run by Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin, the center will serve about 500 of the state's 2,800 apprentices, offering three- to five-year programs in 12 different trades right here in the city.
