Here are the top stories today in Madison:
- Wisconsin's new maps were released last night. The state has a long history of map drawing struggles between the legislatures and governors—who subsequently veto these gerrymandered maps. "Legal uncertainty aside, expect this much: Republicans will draw the maps, Evers will veto them and a court will redraw the districts." (The Cap Times)
- A leaked recording from the president of Epic, the Verona-based electronic health records company, is making employees skeptical of its commitment to diversity and equity. In a recording posted to reddit, president Carl Dvorak said "It's okay to have passions, but not here," Dvorak said. "This isn't the platform to fight for your social cause." Employees are now expressing frustration and with a lack of transparency, they have a hard time gauging if the company is making any strides toward equity. (The Cap Times)
- The Barriques on Atwood Avenue is not renewing its lease and will be closing the cafe before the end of the year. Barriques closed its Park Street location last December. (Isthmus)
- The new Target on State Street is now open. The store, which is the sixth Target in the city, is in the space that was formerly Under Amour. (Madison Magazine)
