1. Bankston Apartments open in downtown Madison (ibmadison.com) — A new 40-unit Bankston Apartments complex has opened at 429 W. Mifflin St., adding much-needed workforce housing in downtown Madison, with most units reserved for moderate-income households. The $11.2 million project by Madison Development Corp. also features community art spaces, local artwork, and modern amenities like in-unit laundry, bike storage, and on-site parking.
   

2. High ridership and safer streets on Madison's new BRT corridor (nacto.org) — Madison's first bus rapid transit line is already boosting ridership and cutting crashes along key corridors like East Washington Avenue, Segoe Road, and Mineral Point Road. With faster buses, safer street designs, and frequent service to major destinations, the city is now planning a North-South Route B to further expand high-frequency transit options for residents.
   

3. Madison man identified as victim of interstate crash (madison.com) — A 40-year-old Madison man, Fontel J. Brown, has been identified as the passenger killed in Sunday night's rollover crash on I-39/90 near the Highway 12/18 exit. State Patrol and the Dane County Medical Examiner say he died from crash injuries, while the 25-year-old driver was hurt and the investigation remains ongoing.
   

4. New $27 million men's shelter opens on Madison's east side (wmtv15news.com) — A new $27 million men's shelter on Madison's east side is now open on Bartillon Drive, offering overnight space for up to 250 single men and a path back to permanent housing. City and county funding currently support overnight operations, while Shelter Friends of Dane County works to raise an extra $1 million annually so the facility can eventually operate 24/7.
   

5. In Chloe Benjamin's 'Under Story,' Wisconsin scientist tackles loss and second chances, fungus and physics (wpr.org) — Madison readers can soon hear author Chloe Benjamin discuss her Wisconsin-inspired novel "Under Story" at the Wisconsin Book Festival event at Madison Central Library. The book follows a young scientist from a Wisconsin apple orchard to Antarctica, weaving in Madison coffee shops, local radio, and themes of grief, parallel universes, and second chances rooted in the state's landscapes and culture.
