Here are the top 3 stories in Madison today:

  1. Ten former UW–Madison athletes have earned medals in hockey at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Five achieved Olympic gold and five more achieved Olympic silver when Canada defeated Team USA for the women's title. Alumna Sarah Nurse scored for Canada and broke an Olympic record in the process. The game ended in a close 3-2 score for Canada. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Construction is set to begin this spring on four Madison Metropolitan School District buildings. Renovations across four high schools will total $70 million, with additional funds being allocated to expand Capital High School and construct the new Southside Elementary School. Due to the high volume of construction labor, the campuses will not be open to the public during the summer. (Daily Cardinal)
  3. Dane County Board supervisors proposed a resolution Thursday that would commit matching funds for a broadband expansion grant application for roughly 1,000 locations across the county. If approved, Dane County will be committing $1 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds towards the project, which is designed to provide improved broadband access to underserved areas of the community.
