2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life for Sussex-Menomonee Falls was a huge Success!!
The 2012 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Sussex-Menomonee Falls-Pewaukee was held at the Sussex Hamilton High School on Friday, June 15th and Saturday, June 16th. The "Olympic" Themed event started with Sussex Hamilton's own Drum Corp, lead by Jon Waite and the Boy Scout Troop #175 leading the Committee into the Stadium. Memonomee Falls' Chief of Police, Anna Ruzinski sang the National Anthem to get the event started. New this year was the raising of the "Relay Flag" that was designed by Sussex Hamilton's own graphic arts student, Chris Lombness. The new tradition of a "Relay Flag" was started through the generous donation of Betty Lou Jackson made on behalf of her sister and former Relay Event Chair, Penny Kundert.
2012 Honorary Chair, Bob Krawczyk is a two time
Cancer Survivor and spoke during the Luminaria Ceremony. Bob's story kicked off the silent Lap to Remember those we lost to Cancer as well as remember those who fought back and won.
On June 1st, the Menomonee Falls High School Students under the Leadership of Julie Schweiss & Alexa Morgan, held a “Mini-Relay” at the MFHS. The generous donations collected by these enthusiastic students was absolutely amazing. Through their Coaches v. Cancer
Fundraiser in the fall of 2011, a Spring Rummage Sale, Car Wash etc., they raised an amazing $18,500 that will be added to our community total for this event! The MFHS Committee attended the Opening Ceremony and received a certificate of recognition From the Community Event.

We would especially like to thank this year's Corporate Sponsors Community Memorial Hospital, Jannsen & Company and Power Test. New this year, Event Tents were sponsored by local Businesses including, Community Memorial Hospital, AnyTime Fitness, J2K Consultants and Pilot Freight Services. Individual Sponsorships included generous donations from Jim & Linda Saladin (Sussex), AmyBeth Gleesing (Jackson) and Elizabeth Gabb (Sussex). The Sussex Hamilton Booster Club & Sussex Knights of Columbus kept the attendees happily fed and the Ladies of Waukesha State Bank were gracious to donate their time to do the accounting for the Day of the Event. We can't forget the wonderful donation of Two Golf carts provided by Fairways at Woodside. These carts made it possible for survivors to participate in the "Survivor Lap" where they may not have had the strength to complete the full lap on their own. A big thank you to all our other sponsors as well. Without you, this event would not have been a huge success.
At the end of the event, the current total of funds raised for the American Cancer Society was just over $75,000 with the Concessions not counted yet and the continous collection of donations through August 31st.
