Alden President Floyd A. Schlossberg was recognized for a lifetime of service and commitment to his alma mater, St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (SJNMA), on November 30, 2011—a day designated as “Floyd A. Schlossberg Day at SJNMA.”
Afternoon ceremonies honoring Schlossberg, a 1955 graduate of SJNMA, were attended by St. John’s Northwestern cadets and administrative staff, as well as friends, family members and employees representing Alden’s Wisconsin rehabilitation and health care centers—Alden Estates of Jefferson (Jefferson), Alden at Fort HealthCare (Fort Atkinson) and Alden Meadow Park (Clinton).
"Floyd Schlossberg epitomizes leadership at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy,” said SJNMA President Jack H. Albert, Jr. “His success runs parallel to his passion to help others. His mission in life has never been lost on what he could do for himself but, instead, how he could improve the lives of others.”

Alden Bennett Construction, founded by Schlossberg 50 years ago, is the company that marks the origins of Alden’s network of rehabilitation, health care and senior living communities in Chicago and the suburbs, Rockford and southern Wisconsin.
“Floyd A. Schlossberg Day at SJNMA” was held to honor that achievement, as well as to recognize Schlossberg’s contributions over the years to the private, all-male college preparatory military academy in Delafield, Wisconsin.

“Floyd A. Schlossberg Day at SJNMA” was a surprise for Schlossberg. He drove to the school supposedly for a regularly scheduled meeting with President Albert. His first inkling that something was unusual was a cannon salute that greeted his arrival. He was escorted to Farrand Hall Gymnasium, where Albert asked him to inspect the school’s drill team and honor guard. After the formal inspection, Albert gestured to a balcony where guests were waiting to surprise Schlossberg.
The ensuing ceremony included an exhibition by the Academy’s Silver Rifles Drill Team, which has taken first place in both regional and national competitions, including the Army JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) National championship challenge. The SJNMA Band performed ‘The Star Spangled Banner,’ and the school’s Honor Guard proudly displayed the national colors.
Afterwards, guests walked to Welles Dining Hall where they were greeted by cadets playing a herald trumpet fanfare. President Albert presented Schlossberg with a plaque, and Schlossberg commented on the life lessons and leadership qualities he learned while at the Academy.
“With President Albert at its helm, St. John’s Northwestern is building future leaders of the world,” Schlossberg said in accepting the plaque.
As guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres in the century-old dining hall, staff members from Alden’s Wisconsin facilities presented Schlossberg with a basket of Wisconsin paraphernalia—including a personalized Green Bay Packers jersey and an ‘I Love Jefferson’ t-shirt. Following the reception, Albert invited Schlossberg and his guests to tour the 110-acre campus, including Schlossberg’s old room in the DeKoven Hall cadet barracks and the Noble Victory Memorial Chapel.
