
Sussex Scholastic Chess Camp is for students going into 2nd grade through 12th grade, July 29, 30 &31, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Within the camp students will be put into study groups based on ability and age. Students will learn beginning chess principles including openings, tactics, mating patterns, game analysis and chess notation. Prior knowledge of chess (knowing how to move the pieces) is helpful but not required.
Students should bring a lunch and snacks. Session will break one hour for lunch and 10 to 15 minutes in the morning session.
Students will work toward pawn, knight and bishop certificates and participate in a 5 round Swiss style chess tournament. Each student will earn a medal and a Wisconsin chess rating. Instructors will work toward a balance of instruction and chess play. Camp Fee: $75
