Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Here's What The Newest El Niño Winter Forecast Says About Snow In WI (patch.com) — Milwaukee-area residents are being told to expect a warmer-than-normal start to the 2026–27 winter, with El Niño likely cutting into early-season snow across Wisconsin and the Great Lakes. Forecasters say colder outbreaks later in the season could still bring near-normal snowfall, even as much of the northern U.S. trends warmer and less snowy overall. The outlook also highlights how shifting storm tracks may affect travel from Milwaukee to other regions this winter.
2. Milwaukee County I-94 East-West Freeway project; upcoming traffic shift (fox6now.com) — Drivers in Milwaukee County should prepare for a major traffic shift on I-94 between Hawley Road and General Mitchell Boulevard the week of Oct. 12, moving vehicles to outer lanes for median work. Eastbound exits and westbound entrances at General Mitchell Boulevard will close long term through spring 2027, though all ramps will stay open on Brewers home playoff gamedays, weather permitting.
3. Father honors son's memory by bringing overdose kits to Milwaukee schools (wisn.com) — Families in Milwaukee should know that naloxone overdose-reversal kits are now available in every Milwaukee Public School, thanks to a father honoring his son who died from an overdose. Volunteers, including an MPS teacher who lost her brother, helped distribute 500 kits, and the effort could expand statewide through proposed legislation.
4. 'Creepy Cosmos': Manfred-Olson Planetarium program explores the frights of space (wuwm.com) — Milwaukee residents can get into the Halloween spirit with UW–Milwaukee's Manfred Olson Planetarium's "Creepy Cosmos" shows, running twice every Friday night in October starting Oct. 9. Student presenters will dive into eerie topics like comet "songs," black holes, and the unknowns of outer space, and costumes are welcome for this third annual program.
5. Here's When to Expect Milwaukee Fall in Full Force (milwaukeemag.com) — If you're in Milwaukee, fall color is expected to peak around Oct. 11–17, with local trees only about 20% turned so far. The guide also maps peak weeks for nearby spots like Waukesha, Oak Creek, and Oconomowoc, plus suggests northern trips to Marinette County for earlier, brighter foliage.
