📰 News we're reading

1. WI Autumns Are Warming Fast: Here's How Recent Falls Stack Up Since 1895 (patch.com) — Milwaukee readers are seeing what the data confirms: Wisconsin's autumns are getting noticeably warmer, with recent falls ranking among the hottest since records began in 1895. Statewide NOAA figures show average fall temperatures in the 2020s running several degrees above the 20th-century norm, highlighting a clear long-term warming trend that affects everything from foliage timing to outdoor plans.

2. Milwaukee deputies union calls for tablet messaging ban at both county facilities (wisn.com) — Milwaukee County residents should know the deputies union is urging a full suspension of inmate tablet messaging at both the Criminal Justice Facility and Community Reintegration Center, after reports tablets were used to threaten victims. Union leaders back the pause but warn that without a clear authority structure and staffing plan, removing tablets could worsen tensions and safety risks inside already understaffed jails.

3. Bird of Hope For Peace Unveiled at City Hall (urbanmilwaukee.com) — If you're downtown, you can step into Milwaukee City Hall's rotunda and see "Bird of Hope for Peace," a striking lace-and-glass art installation on display through Oct. 14. Created from hundreds of handmade "Roses of Hope" by lacemakers in 11 countries, the piece honors human connection and will later appear at the Holiday Folk Fair at State Fair Park.

4. Milwaukee Brewers fans embrace 1982 song for postseason run (fox6now.com) — As the Milwaukee Brewers chase another postseason run, lifelong fan and former Milwaukee police officer and fire captain Ken Murack is reviving a 1982 favorite, "You Can Do Magic," with a twist honoring Bob Uecker. He and his daughter believe the reimagined "Ueck can do magic" anthem captures the pride, nostalgia, and citywide togetherness that October baseball brings to Milwaukee.
