MILWAUKEE, WI — Visitors at the Milwaukee County Zoo recently had the chance to see a baby giraffe enter the world when he was born Aug. 4 in an exhibit area of the zoo, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“It’s a boy,” the zoo announced this week on Facebook. “He weighed 168.7 lbs and was approximately 5’11” tall during his neonatal exam.”

The giraffe’s birth was the first in front of visitors since the 1990s, the Journal Sentinel reported, and occurred after a quick-moving labor prevented zookeepers from relocating mom Ziggy.
