Charges Filed in Fatal Beating of Milwaukee Gas Station Clerk

A Milwaukee man could go to prison for 70 years if convicted in fatal beating of BP gas station clerk.

MILWAUKEE, MI — A Milwaukee man accused of fatally beating a gas station attendant with a baseball bat earlier this month has been charged with reckless homicide with a dangerous weapon, according to media reports. If convicted, Derrick Eugene Williams, 32, could go to prison for 70 years.

The victim, Harjinder Singh, 34, of Milwaukee, chased Williams from the Milwaukee BP station on Jan. 5 after accusing him of shoplifting, investigators said. Singh shouted “don’t come back,” threw the bat at him as he left the store, according to court documents.

Witnesses said Singh was hit over the head at least eight times, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. According to a report by WJMT-TV, Williams said he only hit the man four times, according to court documents.

Singh died of blunt force trauma, according to autopsy reports.



Williams was arrested on Jan. 18. He remains in the Milwaukee County Jail on $200,500 bond. According to jail records, he had outstanding warrants for disorderly conduct and misdemeanor battery.
