Lena Taylor Announces Milwaukee Mayor Bid

State Senator Lena Taylor says she's running to be the next Mayor of Milwaukee. Will she be running against Tom Barrett?

MILWAUKEE, WI — Wisconsin State Sen. Lena Taylor (D-Milwaukee) announced Tuesday that she is now running to become the City of Milwaukee's next mayor.

"We are not going to sit on the sideline with the disparity in this community," she said in a Tuesday morning press conference. "I am not going to give anyone a pass. No one. My heart is for the people."

The mayoral post in Milwaukee is currently held by Tom Barrett - who would run for his fifth term if he chose to run. The primary election in Milwaukee is on Feb. 18, and the general election is on April 7, 2020.

Taylor represents Wisconsin's fourth State Senate district, which includes Shorewood and parts of Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and Glendale.

Barrett, a former State Rep., State Senator and Congressman, had the distinction of running against Scott Walker in both 2010 and in 2012 for Governor. Barrett lost the general election in 2010 and a statewide recall race in 2012.
