Milwaukee Area Told To Seek Shelter As Storm Brings 50 MPH Winds

MILWAUKEE, WI — The National Weather Service urged people in parts of southeast Wisconsin to seek shelter Thursday afternoon as a strong storm moved through the Milwaukee area.

A special weather statement from NWS Milwaukee was in effect until 1:15 p.m. Thursday.

The storm was capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph, along with possible pea-sized hail, according to the weather service.

The affected area included Milwaukee, Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, Bayside, Whitefish Bay, West Bend, Port Washington, Grafton, Hartford, Jackson and Richfield.

Residents in the path of the storm were told to seek shelter in a sturdy structure.

The statement came as showers and storms moved across southern Wisconsin on Thursday. Severe weather was not expected across the region, but stronger storms could still produce gusty winds and small hail.
