MILWAUKEE, WI — An assistant attorney for the City of Milwaukee was fired from her office on Monday, less than a week after she appeared on Russian state television defending Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

Jennifer DeMaster was fired from the Office of the City Attorney on Monday, according to city records. The only reason written for termination was "Job performance. Poor fit."

DeMaster said that the U.S. national security was more at risk from issues "at home" than from the war between Russia and Ukraine in an appearance on Russia Today. Russia Today is both owned and controlled by the Russian government.

The notice doesn't mention DeMaster's TV appearance. Patch has reached out to Milwaukee City Attorney Tearman Spencer for comment.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Spencer to fire DeMaster in November 2021, the Wisconsin Examiner reported. She worked for the Clarion Project from 2015-2017. The Clarion Project is known for making and distributing "anti-Muslim" films, the Southern Poverty Law Center said in a statement.

"Unless Ms. DeMaster renounces her reported work with anti-Muslim hate groups, meets with local Muslim leaders to address their concerns, and pledges to impartially uphold the law, City Attorney Tearman Spencer should relieve her of her position," national council deputy director Edward Ahmed Mitchell told the Wisconsin Examiner.

DeMaster also wrote a book in 2020 titled "Babylon Unveiled: Redefining Faith. Exposing Deception." An online description said the book addresses the "basic fundamental concepts of radical Islamist ideologies."
