Milwaukee Police Shoot, Kill Man After Traffic Stop And Foot Pursuit

MILWAUKEE, WI — A 38-year-old man was killed Tuesday after being shot by Milwaukee police during a foot pursuit that followed a traffic stop, according to the department.

The incident began around 4:50 p.m. when officers stopped a vehicle near Fond du Lac Avenue and West Locust Street for a registration violation, police said.

According to authorities, the driver initially stopped but later fled, leading officers on a vehicle pursuit for reckless driving. During the pursuit, a passenger exited the vehicle and ran from the scene.

The chase ended on the 9800 block of West Lisbon Avenue, where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot, police said. Officers reported seeing the suspect armed with a gun during the foot pursuit.

Police said officers gave the suspect several commands to drop the gun, but he refused. Officers then fired their weapons, striking the suspect. His firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to police. Authorities said they are continuing to search for the passenger who fled earlier in the incident.

Two officers discharged their firearms, police said. One is a 46-year-old officer with more than 10 years of service, and the other is a 40-year-old officer with more than eight years of service. Both have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is handling the investigation, with the Brookfield Police Department serving as the lead agency.
