Whether you’re dreaming of a white Christmas or wishing you were already home for the holidays, it’s no secret that we are in the midst of the busiest travel season of the year. Holiday travel can be fun and exciting, but traveling with people of all ages has its challenges. The experts at Meijer recommend stocking up on these road trip essentials to ensure your arrival at your destination for festive celebration with lots of yuletide cheer!

1. Extra phone charger

Is there such a thing as too many phone chargers? Your phone battery will drain sooner than you think after pulling up directions, streaming videos, listening to podcasts, scrolling through social media and more. It’s a good idea to have a designated car charger (or two!) in case of a charging emergency.

2. Low-Mess Snacks

Traveling is exhausting, but one way to keep passengers of all ages happy is by keeping them fed. Granola bars, fruit snacks, clementines, and string cheese are just a few less-mess healthy travel snacks. If packing and wrapping presents is taking up all your time before the big trip, Meijer Home Delivery can bring the essentials straight to your door.

3. Emergency Roadside Kit

If you’re headed somewhere that could be snowy, or if you’re traveling a long distance, make sure you’re ready for whatever may come your way. In the event that your holiday travel doesn’t go as planned, you will be relieved to have an Emergency Roadside Kit stashed in your trunk. Bring along extra blankets, mittens, socks and hats in case you may be in the cold longer than expected. Having a shovel and cat litter for traction will also help save time and stress if you get stuck in the snow.

4. Games

Although the “license plate game” or “I spy” are tried and true classics, don’t get stuck playing them for hours and switch it up with fun, interactive games like Catch Phrase or Heads Up! Whether your passengers are 5 or 45 years-old, there are travel games for all ages.

5. Food Storage Containers

Keep your holiday food safe and intact during your car ride with food storage containers in all shapes and sizes. If you aren’t bringing a dish to pass, it doesn’t hurt to bring along extra containers for leftovers!

Wherever your holiday plans take you, make sure all the bases are covered to guarantee you arrive to your destination as stress free as possible. Don’t forget that Meijer is open 24 hours up until 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve and reopens at 6 a.m. on December 26!
