WISCONSIN — The first round of Canadian wildfire smoke of 2024 has made its way into Minnesota and is expected to move into northwest Wisconsin "shortly," the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said Sunday.
Unhealthy conditions will be possible as the smoke moves into the state behind a cold front. The plume is coming from northeast British Columbia.
"Concentrations are likely to remain elevated through Sunday afternoon and evening across northwest Wisconsin, and could even increase overnight into Monday morning as a nocturnal inversion sets up and traps the smoke in a thin layer of atmosphere near the surface," the DNR said in its alert.
