Wisconsin Lutheran High School Hosts Annual Veterans Day Program
"Lifelong Servant Leader" program to honor local military personnel who have served in the U.S. armed forces

MILWAUKEE – As part of its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, November 11, Wisconsin Lutheran High School (WLHS) hosted hundreds of veterans from all branches of the military who served in World War II through the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, including veteran Major General Johnny K. Davis.
“We are humbled to welcome back Major General Johnny K. Davis to Wisconsin Lutheran on this special day for our annual observance event,” said Matt Bilitz, Executive Director of the WLHS Foundation & Mission Advancement. He called our students to walk up to anyone in uniform and simply say thank you and delivered a message of respect for our veterans. On behalf of the students, faculty and staff of Wisconsin Lutheran, we thank him and all service men and women for their service to our country in protecting our freedoms.”
Following a procession of veterans into the WLHS gymnasium, Davis, who graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran High School in 1987, explained to students that service, dedication, humility, and empathy are some of the core values it takes to serve our country - whether in uniform or as a good citizen.

Major Davis shared the history of his lifelong service journey, describing how as a young boy he would walk to the library and spend hours walking the shelves and reading about the history of the United States. “I knew from there I wanted to serve our nation in uniform and lead to where I am now after more than 31 years of service,” he said.
“Like many of you here today,” Davis said to the veterans present, “I was drawn to service. I didn’t always know it would be in uniform,” said Davis. “My grandfather was a World War II veteran, and it was he who convinced me to serve in this way… I proudly wear this uniform and still love my job today. I want to step in and help right away whenever I see someone in trouble; I will always take care of soldiers.”
