18-Year-Old Cyclist Who Died In Hit-And-Run Identified

Police say they also tracked down the driver responsible for hitting the cyclist and driving away Monday night.

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI -- Authorities in Racine County say they have tracked down the person they believe responsible for severely injuring and killing a cyclist Monday night.

According to Mount Pleasant police, a cyclist was pedaling south on Highway 32 and Hansche Road in southern Racine County when he was involved in a crash. Authorities on Tuesday night identified the victim as Teren Cagle, 18, Racine.

Police say they also tracked down the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle, who was later arrested. According to police 71-year-old Johnny Taylor of Kenosha was behind the wheel when he struck Cagle and continued on Highway 32 on the evening of Jan. 7. Taylor was transported to the Racine County Jail Tuesday where he is awaiting formal charging, police say.

Officials say police and the South Shore Fire Department responded to the area of the crash just before 11 p.m. Monday on a report that Cagle had been struck by a hit-and-run driver and was lying in the ditch unconscious.

Officials say first responders administered emergency treatment. He was transported with life-threatening injuries to the Froedtert Trauma Center in Milwaukee.
