Meet Cathy Myers, Candidate For Wisconsin 1st District Congress
Cathy Myers, a Democrat, is running to succeed Paul Ryan in Wisconsin's First Congressional District. She will be on the Aug. 14 ballot.

RACINE COUNTY, WI — Janesville Democratic candidate Cathy Myers is running for Wisconsin's First Congressional District seat, and will be on the Tuesday, Aug. 14 Democratic primary election ballot.
Myers faces a crowded field of candidates who want to succeed Paul Ryan's tenure, after the longtime Republican officeholder announced earlier this year that he plans to not run for re-election.
Myers says she supports Medicare for All, and is motivated to seek common-sense gun reforms. We reached out to her campaign to learn more about her as a candidate. Here are her responses in her own words:

Please describe your relevant political experience:
I was first elected to the Janesville School Board in 2013 as the top vote-getter. I was re-elected in 2016 as the top vote-getter. I also serve on the City of Janesville's Committee on Appointments, which I have served as chair.
Please talk about the top 1 or 2 leading issues in your campaign and how you
plan to approach them if elected:
I am fighting for Medicare for All because I believe health care is a basic human right. I will use my platform to raise the personal stories of my constituents suffering under our broken healthcare system, and I will highlight the fact that a single-payer system will lower our overall healthcare spending and provide financial relief for small business owners.
As a teacher, I've seen the fear in my students' faces following the news of a school shooting or during an active shooter drill. I will be a leading advocate for commonsense gun safety legislation to protect our schools and communities. I support universal background checks, banning military-style assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, and closing the loopholes that allow perpetrators of domestic abuse to get a gun.
