Neubauer Announces Bid For Open 66th Assembly Seat
Democrat Greta Neubauer said she's running for the recently-vacated 66th State Assembly seat. A primary election will be held Dec. 19.

RACINE, WI — A local candidate has announced her intentions to run for the open 66th State Assembly District seat, recently vacated when Cory Mason was sworn in as Racine's mayor.
Greta Neubauer, a self-described social-movement organizer and fifth-generation resident of Racine, announced her candidacy for the open seat. According to the Racine County Eye, Neubauer had also served as one of Mason's legislative aides in the past.
“I am running for State Assembly because we need the next generation of leaders to stand up to the powerful special interests that buy our politicians and corrupt our democracy," she said in a prepared statement. "Together we can enact a Green New Deal that provides living wage jobs and protects our environment. We can strengthen our public schools, which are critical to ensuring every person has the opportunity to live up to their potential."
Gov. Scott Walker today issued an Executive Order which calls a special election for the 66th Assembly District following Mason's departure.

Neubauer said she is planning to take up common cause to oppose state-level intervention that she says lowers the quality of life for Racine residents.
“For far too long, Scott Walker and his billionaire backers have been using our state and our community as a testing ground for their most extreme right-wing policies. They continue to gut workers’ rights, demonize immigrants, and lock-up people of color at unacceptable rates," she said. "We need leaders who will stand up to bad ideas, including tax breaks for the wealthy, resegregating our public schools or using our tax dollars for an unnecessary arena.”
