We asked Wittke what his top issues were heading into the November campaign season. Here is what he said:
"There are many issues that are close to my heart, such as cutting taxes, decreasing our state debt while balancing our budget, protecting our second amendment rights, being pro-life, etc. However, when I talk to those in my community, I continuously hear about the burden of affording health insurance and the need for a quality workforce.
One of our biggest challenges right now is connecting those looking for work with businesses that are hiring. Businesses that are in the trades, transportation, healthcare, and other areas, cannot find qualified employees. We need to promote partnerships between high schools, technical colleges, four-year universities, and employers to get students trained for real world quality jobs. I've been doing this for the last two years and believe that I can build on our success inside of the State Assembly."
"As I meet with people around the District, I often hear about their challenges affording health insurance premiums. Whether it's retirees, small business owners, or parents, nearly everyone is feeling the pain. We must be proactive in finding a solution. I support provisions of the Health Care Stability Plan as a step in the right direction to decrease healthcare insurance costs and stabilize coverage in the state. First, I was pleased to see Wisconsin's application for a 1332 Waiver as a means to begin lowering premiums for people in the individual market was approved by the Federal Government. Second, I support enacting legislation to protect coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. Third, the state should obtain a permanent waiver to support SeniorCare so that seniors have access to affordable drug prescriptions."
