Candidates for Mayor Tell Muskego Patch ...

... why they decided to run for the city's top office.

Mayoral candidates Kathy Chiaverotti and Scott Dickmann filed their nomination papers complete with the required signatures last month, well ahead of the Jan. 4 filing deadline. Luke Hudock is also running and turned in his paperwork in plenty of time to appear on the ballot as well. There will be a primary on Feb. 15 to determine the two choices for voters on April 5.

Muskego Patch caught up with the candidates to find out where they stand on issues like economic development, property taxes, some of the social issues in the city, and why they decided to run for the city's top job. This is the first in a series of articles.

Why Run

All three candidates agreed with the positive trajectory of the city and said part of their reason for running for mayor includes wanting to keep the momentum going.

Dickmann has never held public office before, but he is the owner of three Shear Magic hair salon locations. As such, he has experience managing multiple teams of people in more than one location and has had a lot of customer service interaction, meeting people's needs while balancing the needs of his business.

He believes his fresh perspective is what the city needs moving forward.

"I'm not affiliated with any group or organization in Muskego," Dickmann said. "I think that means good things, and I plan to get out into the community to listen to what business owners and residents say they need."

Currently the Executive Director of the Muskego Chamber of Commerce and a Waukesha County Supervisor, Chiaverotti said she has the experience that the city needs for its top job.

"I have the experience, commitment and 25 years of dedication, serving Muskego," she said. "I also had the encouragement of the mayor and I am ready for a new challenge."

Hudock owns Bug Defense, a seasonal pest control company, in Muskego. He also has never held office before, but he said he decided to run for office because he is raising his family in Muskego and believes the city is a great place to live, work, and play. He wants more people to know these things and move to the city to experience it all for themselves.

"I think Muskego is a great place," he confirmed. "And I think Mayor Johnson has done a good job of reducing the cost of general government, the administrative side of things. We need to apply those same principals at every level and to every department."
