CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! Trolleys Coming to Jammin’ on Janesville

Old-time trolleys will shuttle visitors throughout the July 1st event, ringing back to the resort days of historic Muskego.

Two vintage reproduction trolleys will join Muskego’s complementary shuttle service during the next Jammin’ on Janesville event on July 1, said Denise Konkol, event coordinator for the city’s Chamber of Commerce.

The original trolleys first came to Muskego in 1904 when they were used to shuttle Milwaukee residents to resorts along the shores of Little Muskego Lake, as reported by Village Profile, an online resource of community profiles.  The last trolley line in Muskego ceased operations in 1939, according to the profiler.

Replicated to look like the real thing and complete with ringing bells, the trolleys are easy to board and ride for visitors of all ages, said Dan Mikolhaczak, owner of DMI Limousine Service, which provides the vehicles. The trolleys have a wheelchair lift and dual handrails for people who may need help boarding, he said.

Trolley service at the Jammin’ event will be sponsored by local businesses that include Safeway Pest Management and Advanced Physical Therapy Services, according to Konkol.  Encompass Limo will continue to provide an additional 14 black passenger vans for shuttle service, she said.

“Encompass Limo now has signage that helps identify them better as an official shuttle for the event,” Konkol said, after feedback from the first event in early June indicated the vans should be more visible.

“We are expecting a larger turnout based on the popularity of the first Jammin’ event,” said Konkol, “and we want to help pedestrians move along the route in a more efficient manner – and a fun one at that.”

Jammin’ on Janesville is an awareness and loyalty marketing campaign launched by the Muskego Chamber of Commerce in June 2011 to help inform residents and visitors that Muskego businesses will remain open during massive road construction coming in 2012 to 2014.

The Jammin’ events feature outdoor entertainment, food, and activities at businesses located within the construction corridor of Janesville Road from College Avenue (Lincoln Point Mall) on the east to Racine Avenue on the west, Konkol said.

The remaining Jammin’ on Janesville events will be held on July 1 and August 5, 2011 from 5 to 9 p.m. Patch readers can visit muskego.org for more information."
