Concealed Carry Passes, Which Carries Concern for Muskego Police
Wording of legislation will be key says Captain John LaTour.

As the Wisconsin State Assembly has passed the concealed carry bill and Governor Scott Walker has said he will sign it shortly, local law enforcement will be looking carefully at the language of the law to make sure citizens stay safe.
"I'm concerned about what the legislation ends up saying," said Muskego Police Captain John LaTour. "At one end, you have those who were purporting the idea of constitutional carry, which basically says anyone can carry a gun, without training or permits. I don't feel that is going to promote safety."
Captain LaTour explained that even trained officers undergo retraining throughout the year, and he worries how someone without any training might handle a gun.

"I'm concerned that someone with a weapon who might be out on the lake gets cut off or someone else drives a boat too close gets angry over that, and we end up with a tragic situation," he explained.
The measure passed the Senate in a 25-8 vote (6 Democrats also voted in favor) on June 14, and was passed in a 68-27 vote (11 Democrats in favor).
