Durham Drive Construction Moves Along
Status of road project includes new placement of utilities, with upcoming sewer to make road impassable for motorists from McShane to North Cape.
The Public Works committee met Monday night, and progress was reported on the Durham Drive reconstruction project.
Most noticeably, nearly all utility poles have been repositioned to accommodate the wider road that's planned, and dewatering well casings have been put into the road, crossing the road just south of Schultz Lane. Up until now, motorists who have stretched the meaning of "local traffic only" will soon have to turn around in order to reach the other end.
"The idea of having a 'road closed' sign is to get people used to taking an alternative route, even though technically the road is passable," explained committee chairman Alderman Noah Fiedler. "However, once sanitary sewer construction begins, there will be major trenches across the road and blocking traffic, which means that while you may be able to access properties from one end or another, the road itself will not be entirely passable."
