Lake Denoon Receives Approval for Grant Application

Common council approves finance committee recommendation for lake study.

The Common Council voted unanimously to apply for a $10,000 DNR Lake Planning grant to help pay for a study of Lake Denoon.

The request came from the Tom Zagar, Conservation Coordinator and Lake Denoon Advancement Association, which will provide an additional $3,500 to fund the study.  The group is not eligible to apply for the grant, however the city is, and the dollars would pay for a lake management plan that would be prepared by the Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC). The deadline to apply is June 1.

"This will help to develop a 'fact book' on the lake, including species of fish and plant life, invasive species information and update the previous information on the lake, which is fairly old," Zagar explained.

The resolution also recognized "the need for responsible and holistic long-range planning to better manage the lake, its watershed, and its use" in authorizing the grant.
