Lazich Recall Efforts 'Down to the Wire'
Area recall efforts have made progress, but have a long way to go with deadline looming.

While supporters of a recall effort to unseat State Senator Mary Lazich, who represents the 28th District, are pleased at their progress, the deadlines for mailing and turning in signatures directly are making the days ahead critical.
Recall Lazich spokeswoman Elizabeth Galewski stated, "We already have well over half of the 21,000 signatures we need. However, this also means that we still have thousands of signatures to collect."
The mailing deadline for signatures to be processed and verified by the official Committee to Recall Lazich was set by the group at April 19, with verification due to get under way this week. Recall petition circulators cannot send the petitions directly to the Government Accountability Board (GAB). The signatures must be physically turned over to the GAB by those who made the initial request to begin the recall process, or else they will be discarded.
While recall petitioners will continue to collect signatures after the mailing deadline, the Committee to Recall Lazich will not be able to vet them before turning them over to the GAB. The hard deadline is May 2nd.
