Muskego Conservation Efforts Earn Bird City Recognition

Carl Schwartz presented the Common Council with the award, a plaque and street sign.

Muskego is a Bird City Wisconsin, and at the Tues., Feb. 22 city council meeting, city officials were presented their recognition.

Carl Schwartz, a program coordinator with the Bird City Wisconsin project, said the city's dedication to preservation for conservation is an example for other cities to follow.

The city met at least seven of 22 criteria for the Bird City Wisconsin designation and will receive some grant monies to help promote the award. Re-establishing the 150+ acre Engel Conservation Area and working with the state Department of Natural Resources to protect and promote habitats around Big Muskego Lake were part of what set Muskego apart.
