Muskego Planner Downplays Possible Sewer Snag
Milwaukee County Supervisor's request for a referendum likely too late to stop Muskego-Franklin pipeline to hook up with MMSD, and even if successful, would impact Franklin more than Muskego, according to city engineer.

A recent article that stated Milwaukee County Supervisor John Weishan Jr. is hoping to derail a $41 million sewer project involving Franklin and some Muskego residents is not too concerning for city engineers.
Weisan said the project had "unfairly jumped ahead of other more worthy sewer fixes" for communities like those on the north side that experienced flooding in the summer of 2010. However, Dave Simpson, city planning engineer, said MMSD had already done a review of possible projects, and if there was something they could have done sooner to address the flooding, they would have acted.
"I can't see how a referendum will change anything," Simpson said of Weisan's suggestion of an April advisory referendum to poll Milwaukee County voters. "At the district, contracts are already in place and have been awarded. In addition, I'm not sure that the County Executive's office has anything to do with MMSD."

Simpson also said the hook up from Muskego's perspective is "a good benefit, but we're looking at it for the long-term development of our city. We are already hooked up to the district, and this would be a secondary point for us... We have plenty of capacity for a while."
