Muskego Public Works Committee Recommends Creation of Skylark Court

The court's two homeowners submit petition asking for formal recognition.

Muskego will soon get a new court on the city’s east side, just off of Woods Road near the Franklin border, but no new construction will be taking place. The road and the homes have already been built - a long time ago, in fact.

At the request of two homeowners in the form of a petition, the Public Works Committee tonight voted to approve the formal creation of Skylark Court.

The court, located off of Skylark Lane, only has the two homes, and has never before had a sign or been listed on city maps.

It was estimated by city staff that the creation and installation of a sign will cost roughly $170.

Fourth District Alderman Keith Werner, who serves on the committee, motioned to approve the measure.

Fifth District Alderman Dan Soltysiak offered up an amendment that would have the homeowners pick up the cost for the sign. He argued that, normally, the developer of the subdivision would cover the cost, not the city.

However, the point was made by city staff that the federal government has mandated changes to all city street signage by the year 2019, and, therefore, the city would need to pick up the cost of the sign anyway.

The city has already slowly started adjusting to the new federal mandates by replacing signs of the old (current) type that have been damaged or broken.

Soltysiak’s amendment failed, and the measure passed unanimously as originally presented.
