Muskego Sewers Get an Upgrade to Prepare for Future Growth
Cooperative agreement with City of Franklin mean improvements will also help prevent flooding in the case of a main break.

A new interceptor connection at Ryan Road and the far eastern border of Muskego could help prevent flooding on the south side of the city in case of a main break, but it also means less work in the future as designated areas grow and develop.
Approved earlier this month, the Ryan Creek Interceptor (RCI) is a cooperative project between the cities of Muskego and Franklin and is part of a larger 2020 Facility Plan from the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District. The City of Franklin has agreed to pay for and install the RCI in Franklin, which is much sooner than the MMSD plan.
At this point, Muskego is only responsible for diverting flows from the city's existing system in to the RCI once it's finished.

City Engineer David Simpson said this is a proactive step for the city to take.
"Once the RCI is completed, it will serve six lift stations and eventually the entire south side of the city," he said.

In case of an emergency like a main break, reverse flows will make it possible to prevent flooding.
Also, according to Simpson, "(The RCI) will provide a large future benefit to the city as development within the areas designated to be served by this connection expand."
Undertaking the work now will save Muskego taxpayers in the future. Total cost right now is $39,000 for the planning and lift station analyses and $20,000 for the RCI force main design. The $20,000 is included in the intergovernmental agreement.
