Muskego to Receive Share of State DOT Funds

State funds earmarked for local road and transportation needs for cities will be sent soon.

Muskego will be receiving more than $200,000 in aid for transportation and highway projects.

Governor Scott Walker has announced that checks totaling $137.6 million for General Transportation Aids, Connecting Highway Aids, and Expressway Policing Aids have been conveyed to Wisconsin units of local government. Of that amount, Muskego was indicated to receive $234,936.68.

The July payments from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) include $134,335,218 in General Transportation Aids to 1,921 local units of government; $3,015,874 to 122 municipalities for Connecting Highway Aids; and $255,975 to Milwaukee County for Expressway Policing Aids.

According to the release, local governments will share an estimated $446 million from the state transportation fund to build and maintain local roads and bridges, and in Expressway Policing Aids that support the Milwaukee County Sheriff Department’s patrol of Milwaukee expressways. 

General Transportation Aids help defray the costs of constructing, maintaining, and operating roads and streets under local jurisdiction. Connecting Highway Aids reimburse municipalities for maintenance and traffic control of certain state highways within municipalities.

Communities also receive state transportation fund revenues for public transit, elderly and disabled transportation, and airport and harbor development from WisDOT. State and federal funds are also allocated for specific highway and bridge construction projects.

Muskego Mayor Kathy Chiaverotti said that until the city receives official confirmation on the funds they will receive, she could not comment on what the city would do with the incoming funds.
