Update: Possible Candidate for 83rd Assembly District Issues Statement

Dave Craig says he is still considering a run for office if Gov. Walker calls for special election.

Dave Craig of Big Bend (Town of Vernon) is still considering a run for the 83rd Assembly District. That seat is vacant because Scott Gunderson was recently appointed to the State Department of Natural Resources by Governor Scott Walker.

Craig would run as the Republican candidate when Walker calls for a special election. The 83rd Assembly District includes Muskego.

Here is the statement Craig released to Muskego Patch:

“The outpouring of support by friends, business owners, and elected and political leaders encouraging me to run for the seat vacated by Representative Scott Gunderson has been truly humbling.  I thank them for their prayers and support as my wife and I continue toward making this very important decision in the coming days.  I wish to particularly thank my mentor and friend, Congressman Paul Ryan, for his unwavering support, encouragement and counsel in this matter.”

“Representative Gunderson has left a legacy of principled leadership that will be difficult to match by whomever his successor is.  I thank him for his years of conservative representation in the Assembly, and I wish him God’s speed in his new leadership role at the DNR.”

“Governor Walker will need strong, conservative support in the legislature in bringing broad reforms to state government.  We as conservatives have a duty to defend the Constitution and the liberties of the people of this great state that have all too long been battered by the heavy hand of big government.  Now is the time for action by our elected officials to reduce government spending and ease crippling regulations.  We must not fail in this endeavor.  To do so will relegate our children to a diminished standard of living and a Wisconsin incomparable to the one I grew up in.”
