UPDATE: Recall Efforts Bring Voter Complaints

While some polling places in Muskego report no problems, others have already seen complaints.

(This is an update from an earlier report.)

Early morning check-ins at the District 7 site on Loomis Drive and City Hall revealed no troubles with voters coming to cast their ballots with recall supporters against State Senator Mary Lazich, however a complaint at the Muskego Public Library brought police to the scene.

According to pollworker Harriet Stelter, a woman who came into vote complained that Lazich recall supporters "were rude to her," and that if Stelter wouldn't call the police, she would.  The group of three had set up a table just outside of the entrance to the library, which according to current law, is legal.  However, if complaints are lodged against petitioners, they will be required to move at least 100 feet from the polling place.

According to Jim (last name withheld),one of the recall supporters, they had not spoken to anyone entering the library, but reported that they had heard negative comments directed at them since they had arrived at 7am.

Stelter said she had spoken with Sharon Mueller at City Hall instead of calling police, however recall supporters said that three squads had arrived on scene to request they move further away from the library entrance.

Later in the day, police returned to the library, where petitioners were told they were allowed to return to their original position near the library entrance.
