School Board Approves Lamers to Bus Students in Fall

Durham School Services will remain as the transportation company for Muskego schools through summer school and sports.

The Muskego School Board approved an agreement Monday night to award Lamers Bus Lines the job of busing district students for the next three years, with the mutual option for two additional years.

Scot Ecker, Director of Business Services for the district, explained that cost was only part of the consideration when recommending Lamers.

"While the request for proposal (RFP) required all companies to provide these features, we wanted to explain that Lamers will provide computerized routing and GPS on all buses," Ecker said.  "In addition, there will be two portable security cameras for use in buses where incidences are being reported."

Ecker also explained that while there were no stipulations in the RFPabout placing a terminal within the district, Lamers was actively seeking an appropriate facility in the area to accommodate their fleet and the drivers.  An earlier concern about the age of the buses was also addressed, with Ecker explaining "the oldest model in their fleet is 2006, and the average age of the buses is about three years old."

Durham School Services, which serves the district now, is assisting with the transition and will supply services through the summer school and sports season.
